Joy Aitken’s Safe Home (Omineca Safe Home) 250-567-9512, if you want to call and ask questions, you can.

You may call and let them know you are on your way, or they said you can just walk in no matter when or who you are no need to call. You can stay up to 30 days or longer they said if the need is there still. They will help you set up financially to get on your own feet and they have on site counselling if you need it. 

Homeless Outreach Prevention Program (HOPP)

This program is run by Connexus and they come to Fraser Lake once a week. If you or anyone you know is having issues with rent, they can help. Call NVCSS at 250-567-9205

HOPP is often the first point of contact for individuals and families within the provincial system of housing and support services. The program provides support to find long-term or more stable housing options. It provides referrals to appropriate services in the community to support independence along the housing continuum.

Rental Supplements

Monthly rental Supplements are available to individuals and families needing assistance in Fraser Lake, Vanderhoof and Fort St. James. Applications for supplements will be accepted at any time, from anyone and are assessed based on need. Please phone or enquire in person to apply. HOPP Services are available to: Anyone over the age of 19 who is at risk of being homeless”

Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) offers services for Mental Health, Medical Transport, Early Child Development and Intervention Services, Child and Family Development programing, Addiction and Recovery programs, Maternal Child Health Services, Nursing services (on reserve only), PEACE Program, Rainbows program, Telehealth, Elders support

CSFS has a safe house in Burns Lake as well (located on Lake Babine Nation)

Elizabeth Fry in Burns Lake:

Eagle’s Nest transition house is a safe place for women and children who have experienced violence or are at risk of experiencing violence in the Lakes District. In addition, we continue to provide supportive recovery beds to women transitioning to or from addictions programs.

  -Eagle’s Nest Transition House provides: 

-Support and advocacy

-Basic necessities while in the home

-Support for children

-Crisis intervention

-Provides information and referrals

-And can provide information about police files, the criminal justice system, court case results and the dynamics of abuse. 

-They can also provide referrals for emergency social services, legal services, resources for children, women’s transition houses and community agencies.

Community paramedics provide primary care services to increase access to basic health care services in non-urgent settings, in patients’ homes or the community.

Fireweed Collective Society/Fort St. James

Non-profit, charitable society offering first-stage transition house for women and their children who are leaving a violent relationship. Provides support for women with issues of violence and abuse, information and referral, outreach, and assistance with developing safety plans.

Lastly men need help too! 

If you know a man that needs help there are three homes/living facilities for men to get help in PG. You can call the Canadian Mental Health Association, located at 1152 3rd Ave they can connect you to the right place.
